Communities

Ajabu Wild was built on partnerships with the pastoralist communities and conservancies of northern Kenya, not around them. Community members are the custodians of their land and the true experts of their habitats. We are just visitors. However, together, we can build something that adds value to both our endeavours. We co-create campsites, employ local guides, porters and rangers, and source provisions locally wherever we can, so that a growing share of every trip's spending stays in the places we pass through.

In 2026, Ajabu Wild trained 16 individuals from all over northern Kenya, including Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet, in tour and trail guiding and emergency first aid. Through this and other networks, we subsequently started partnerships with various conservancies, community-run eco-camps and other community groups.

If you represent a conservancy, group ranch or community organisation with a story to tell and a landscape worth protecting, we'd like to hear from you. Together we can look at what a partnership could involve: from hosting a new campsite to organising an expedition and adding your landscapes and activities to our travel itineraries.
